The Polish National Tourism Office has announced the Extreme Politics initiative, a destination development programme intended to position Poland as a hot destination for political drama. The initiative follows the detention of a man suspected of planning attacks against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the defence minister, an development the Office described as a notable engagement metric.
The programme was prepared by the Department of Destination Storytelling, which observed that visitor numbers have remained stable across recent seasons and that stability has been classified as a planning concern. Under the initiative, existing security arrangements are to be presented as a visitor experience, and regional partners have been asked to identify locations with strong dramatic associations.
Tourism operators were briefed on Thursday. Hotel groups were asked to confirm availability for the period in which related proceedings take place. Guides have been issued a revised script that refers to recent events as ‘a moment in the national story.’ The Office has not confirmed whether the initiative will be extended to other sectors.
The Office wishes to state that the initiative does not seek to make light of the investigation, which is being handled by the relevant authorities in line with established procedure. Enquiries from journalists should be directed to the press office.
