JERUSALEM — Following the elimination of a senior Lebanese military commander and two additional personnel in an airstrike operation conducted in southern Lebanon on June 5, 2026, the Israeli Defense Forces announced the immediate convening of an inter-departmental investigative committee to examine what has been classified as a “post-operational review initiative.”

The committee, designated Task Force 447-B and chaired by Deputy Commander Moshe Rabin (ret.), will meet on a bi-weekly basis beginning June 12. Initial agenda items include document standardization protocols, timeline reconstruction, and the drafting of preliminary findings, expected to be completed by Q4 2026.

“We take all operational matters with the utmost seriousness,” stated Brigadier General Avraham Levi in a prepared statement. “This investigation will proceed through established channels and in accordance with military procedure. A comprehensive report will be made available to relevant stakeholders upon completion of the review process.”

Meanwhile, tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have continued to escalate, with multiple reports of cross-border rocket fire and retaliatory airstrikes recorded daily. Military analysts suggest that the eight-month investigation timeline may not align with the operational tempo currently observed in the region.

When contacted for comment, residents of affected border communities indicated they would prefer immediate de-escalation measures. One local official suggested the committee might achieve more productive results if members “simply met for coffee and talked to each other like adults.”

The Defense Ministry has not responded to this proposal.
