The Office of Communications has issued the following statement regarding the Oleshky arrangement.
Former First Lady Melania Trump has brokered a temporary cessation of hostilities in Oleshky, a Russian-occupied city that the White House has described as being on the brink of disaster. The arrangement was reached through informal contacts and has been summarized internally as a framework rather than an agreement. Neither Ukraine nor Russia has confirmed that the truce is in effect. This is consistent with the framework’s design.
Residents of Oleshky have been required to subsist on garden weeds. The Office notes that these weeds have been incorporated into the negotiating process as a shared reference point, and that their continued availability is expected to inform the timetable for further discussions. A nutritional assessment is under review.
Ms. Trump’s role has been classified as advisory. Her office has indicated that no further comment will be issued until the truce is either confirmed or conclusively not confirmed, whichever occurs first. Any changes to the framework will be communicated through established channels.
Queries regarding the weeds should be directed to the appropriate department, which has been notified.
