The Office of the Deputy Secretary for Urban Order has issued a statement regarding continued demonstrations in Delhi following the release of the group known to the department as the ‘cockroach cohort.’ Hundreds of persons who assembled on public roads in contravention of posted restrictions were detained on Sunday. Their detention was processed in accordance with standing procedure, and a further forty individuals were transferred to a holding facility where they were documented in a manner consistent with the department’s current priorities.

The group’s leaders have stated their intention to continue the campaign. The department acknowledges this commitment and notes that the agenda, which concerns the recognition of insect tenure in shared municipal buildings, has been moved to the top of the forward schedule. Pending human matters, including the drainage backlog and the waiting list for ration cards, have been transferred to a supplementary annex, where they will be reviewed at a later date to be confirmed.

Officials stressed that the reprioritisation reflects no judgement on the merit of either cause. A working group has been constituted to determine which concerns are more urgent. It is expected to report once the cockroaches have been consulted through an accredited intermediary.

The department regrets any confusion. Human residents are requested to direct queries to the general helpline, which remains open during standard hours and is staffed by personnel who have been briefed on the matter.
