The Office of the President of the European Council has confirmed that an Emergency Avocado Toast Summit will convene in Brussels on Thursday, following criticism of recent strikes by Donald Trump, who described them as a ‘disgrace’ and said President Zelensky is ‘more difficult to work with than Putin.’ The summit’s published agenda contains a single item, listed as ‘toast (sourdough, seeded, to be determined).’
Ministers from all member states have been asked to bring a brunch-grade contribution. The Commission’s Directorate for Breakfast Affairs has classified the gathering as a non-binding statement of unity, a designation that allows it to proceed without the usual sign-off from the Council.
Zelensky’s office said Ukraine has the right to defend itself and that the catering arrangements were received with appreciation. Diplomatic sources described the event as a proportionate response to a situation that is still being assessed. Attendees were reminded that the toast is to be served at room temperature, in line with established guidance on avocado handling.
A follow-up communiqué will be issued once the toast has been reviewed.
