Hunt ran through what witnesses described as “basically a river with lane markings,” while competitors around her appeared to be auditioning for a survival documentary. Deep Heat was applied. Socks were wrung out. Existential dread set in.
This is what happens when elite athletes encounter weather that is not controlled by air conditioning and sports science. These are people who have optimized every variable in their lives — nutrition, sleep cycles, altitude training, the exact angle of their running spikes. Then a cloud shows up and ruins everything. A cloud. An invisible mass of water vapor that has been around since the planet formed, and somehow it was treated like a natural disaster requiring emergency protocols.
The absurdity cuts deeper than the puddles. We have built stadiums, invested billions, trained thousands.
