Marvel has solved the mutant problem by simply casting the most recognizable faces on TikTok. Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbot, and Adam Driver are now your X-Men, a lineup that screams “we tested this on focus groups aged 13-24 and they knew three of these names.”

The studio’s logic is transparent: forget the exhausting business of finding actors who understand the material or have any history with the source. Just hire whoever trended last week. Kit Connor’s main credential is playing a gay teenager in a Netflix show aimed at people who still use Snapchat filters. Sadie Sink’s superpower appears to be existing in the cultural consciousness while doing very little.

Adam Driver is the one actual working actor here, which makes his inclusion either a mercy hire or proof that even serious performers will take Marvel’s money to phone in a three-scene cameo. Christopher Abbot rounds out the ensemble as the guy whose IMDb page you’ll Google midway through the film.

Why cast for acting ability when you can cast for follower count? The algorithm doesn’t care about range or depth—it cares about engagement metrics. Marvel’s betting that audiences will show up because they recognize these faces from their For You page, not because they believe in the characters or the story.

The film releases in 2028, which gives Marvel two years to film reshoots, recast half the ensemble, and pray that whatever TikTok trends by then haven’t completely invalidated their casting choices.
